What Dog Breeds Are Good As Family Pet With Young Kids?
We are planning on getting a new puppy but would like something friendly with our 1 yr old. What breeds should we look for or avoid? We are planning to train it and be careful with the baby but still want to pick the best type for our family?

Go for a lab or retriever(or mutt of any kind - they are much more temperamental than purebreds). . Small ‘lap dogs’ can be very territorial and can have issues with kids (even when they are raised with the kids).
You can also visit a shelter - they are very good about ‘testing’ the dog to be certain about what type of family it would be good with (ie one with kids). They will also help you along the way if training issues arise.
Any breed if trained well can be ideal even with young kids. However, Golden and Labrador Retrievers, Boxers, Boston Terriers, Pugs, Schnauzers, Wippets, Westies and a few more have been reputed for being TOP family dogs.
Although they can also be good, Akitas and Chows are reputed to not be good with kids.
That depends on your lifestyle.
Labs are a very mouthy breed and are hyperactive and if not given enough stimulation they’ll become seriously destructive. They are also very overbred and some are more tempermental than others.
But honestly, I would avoid small dogs at all cost. For that same reason small dogs are fragile and a baby could easily hurt it.
An american pitbull terrier is a great family dog. I have a three year old and seven year old and my three pitbulls are great with my kids. Most people say labradors but they are so overbred that you could never tell how they will act.
I would avoid chow chows, akitas and most small dogs they are great dogs but don’t tolerate kids that much. Some do but most don’t.
you should probably avoid herding dogs as in border collies, aussies, collies. . and dogs lik them b/cuz they require a bunch of attention (and they bark A LOT) i have a border collie mixed w/ a aussie and WOWWW hes a lot of work. . . do u want a big dog or little?. . . if you want a big dog a mastiff would be good they are ver big but they are sooo gentle and if you want a smaller dog i would get like a shizu or something like it b/cuz they can also be very calm
american pitbull terriers. i have one and he is WONDERFUL with my 17 month old. they are very protective of children and can take the rough play from toddlers. i wouldnt raise any other dog around my daughter. there was actually a temperment test done on 122 breeds of dogs and pitbulls were in the top 95% passing with a 86% passing rate cocker spaniels passed with a 79%. jsut do some research and im sure youll find the perfect dog for your family
collies are very gentle and caring, not to mention they will protect members of your family and keep you together due to their herding instincts. If you dont want a long haired dog shedding everywhere, you could opt for a Labrador Retriever. if your still stuck, try this website: http://www. selectsmart. com/DOG/

i would recomend the chihuahua they are very tiny so are less capable of stepping on ur baby and crushing it . but all dogs love children if they are taught rite mine helps little children be less afraid of things
a golden retriver
